After

1. You are in a war zone.
    

2. Follow the instructions of the authorities. Also leave the area so that they can do their work.
    

3. Do nothing that might impede the recovery actions unless invited to by the authorities. You might be asked to help if you have a skill that would be helpful= you are an off duty or current emergency professional.
    

4. Avoid using the land line phone, except for serious emergencies.  Unless absolutely necessary, do not use your cell phone if operable. It will only tie up the communication lines.
    

5. Look out for loose or dangling power lines.  You can be electrocuted and this can be fatal.
    

6. Do not use or drink water unless told by emergency preparedness personnel or health officials that it is safe.
    

7. Do not turn on utilities unless it is safe. You can get this information buy listening to the radio or watching TV or better yet finding out from emergency personnel in the field.
