Here are some things you should do after a tornado:
-
Accept the fact that the area, depending on the strength
and duration of the tornado, may look like a war zone. So stay away from
places that have sustained heavy damage.
-
Examine yourself for injuries such
as broken bones, head injuries and the like. If you are injured, try
to seek medical attention from other people in the area. Look for first
responders and emergency personnel.
-
If you have no injuries or your injuries are
minor (carefully examine yourself), try to help others who are injured
and stay with them to get medical assistance.
-
If you have any medical training, such as CPR,
ask if you can help or take the initiative.
-
Be aware of life threatening
hazards such as chemical spills or biological agents in the air. Watch out
for debris.
-
Check for food and water supplies. If you
have a particular expertise (such as a being a doctor or nurse), make
sure that there are adequate medical supplies on hand.
